Every once in a while, the concept for a project comes together so well it's like it built itself. This grinning guy is a visual pun. Dressed up for tonight in a cheap mass-market skeleton costume, he references classical white-on-black skeletal drawings made since the 1800's. Pterosaurs across the moon replace the sterotypical bats. And what kind of Jack-o-lantern would a dinosaur carry? What is the right size, the right shape, the right color, and has the right carrying capacity for meat treats? An ammonite, of course! |

Regrowth
12" x 12" Framed |

Do you recognize the horsetails in this companion piece to Life at the Bottom from the August newsletter? They are stems from that piece that I removed because the color wasn't quite working. The ground, too, is recycled. Only the dragonfly was created specifically for this piece. The use of recycled materials for the piece created a difference process of working for me. I had to be much more concious and open to what I had at hand, instead of seeking only my original vision. I did a little research into the symbolism of dragonflies, hoping they'd represent rebirth and fit my 'Regrowth' and recycling theme. Not quite- but I enjoy what I found, and I think it fits the process just as well. As a symbol of self-awareness, Dragonfly invites us to look deeper, probing the surface of the water as he skims. |

Burning Bright 9" x 12" Framed |

The scent on this Tricopilia orchid was a heady perfume, and it would waft around the room, hitting you when you least expected. The bloom lasted only about a week, not very long for an orchid flower (but not the shortest either.) The brightest flames burn quickest, they say. |
