I am Honored

Earlier today I ran across an article I knew nothing about: a write-up on the Society of Animal Artists' member exhibition, Art and the Animal. It was written by a local Kentucky website for the new hosting venue of the traveling exhibit. The article discussed me and my work. I was surprised, honored, and excited by the unexpected publicity.

I've also been lucky to be featured in other ways in many of my upcoming events. In March, I will be sharing a large gallery space with Craig Gassen in a two-person show on Santa Fe Drive. I have been asked to speak on a panel in mid-March at paleontological symposium, and I will be co-hosting a webcast with gallery owner Annette Coleman, titled The Art of Paper. Recently, I gave a presentation to one of the least assuming and delightful audiences of all, the students of an elementary school. I loved to see their eyes light up with magic.

Ancient Arms III

The octopus reveals himself: curious, humorous, bold yet secretive.

The spiral paper, with its repeating ammonite-like pattern inspired me to pay tribute to a fascinating group of invertebrates known as cephalopods.

With two colors of paper, and a subject matter that easily wrapped its tentacles around my brain and my heart, Ancient Arms was envisioned and designed as a triptych that could be sold and displayed either as individual works, or a single cohesive piece. When the first octopus sold within days of its completions, my pressure to complete the other two pieces quickly lightened. Now at long last, I am able to present the finished Ancient Arms triptych.

22nd Annual Governor's Invitational Art Show and Sale

"We hope you enjoy the finest selection and variety of paintings and sculpture from Colorado artists. The show continues to be one of the most prestigious exhibits of original art in the Western Untied States.

The art show is the capstone project and the largest fundraiser for these the Rotary Club of Loveland and the Thompson Valley Rotary Club, whose missions are to help local and global neighbors through active volunteerism and philanthropy. The revenues received from the sale of art provide the financial resources for both clubs’ treasured projects that enrich the lives of many in need, particularly youth."

Bringing the Past to Life
Artist/Scientist Panel

This will be my fifth time participating, and my third time as a committee volunteer for the Founders Symposium, as I indulge my love of paleontology and the ancient past. This year I've also been invited to speak on a paleoart panel during the Bringing the Past to Life Workshop. Although the art show is free and open to the public, registration is necessary if you'd like to attend a workshop. The two-day symposium is a great value!

"Everyone knows about 'The Ice Age'; usually a reference to Earth's most recent global cold snap that abated 12,000 years ago. Fewer people know that the last two million years may have hosted 50 or more glacial advances and retreats and glacial climates are far from a recent phenomenon in Earth's history.

Discover how glacial climates and life interact to shape evolution and the biosphere with presentations on everything from pre-Cambrian Snowball Earth to Carboniferous glaciations, to more familiar Pleistocene pulses of cold. Enjoy workshops on glaciers, ice age mammals, and artist-scientist collaborations that bring these worlds to life. The symposium will feature poster sessions, displays, and an ever-growing gallery of outstanding paleo-art."
