I am a Paper Artist |
(...you already know that.) I've got lots of news, but since I have a show this weekend, I'm going to keep this month's newsletter short and sweet and to the point. If you're in Wyoming or northern Colorado, check the Upcoming Events section for information on a great show at a fun venue. Over on Instagram, I finished up art challenge #AMonthInPaper created by @paperartistcollective. The daily prompts were fun, and it was an interesting journey down memory lane to find pieces and photos to fit in with them - almost like answering interview questions. Also thanks much to Beautiful Bizarre magazine for naming me one of the Top 100 Paper Artists on Instagram. This is a fantastic list for sure, filled with some very amazing artwork! I'll also be sending my work out to the east coast in June to a special invitational show of paper art at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Virginia. |
New Works |
Raven Rising 8" x 9"
Raven. 'Nuff said. This is a tiny piece that has less cuts than it looks like. Most of the detail comes from embossing the lines into feathers. If you've taken a workshop with me, you've heard me refer to this as a "shelf bend," (a term I invented for lack of knowing a better one.) It's an easy shaping technique that adds a lot of punch. This lucky raven has flown to Cheyenne for a while for the Western Spirit Art Show at the Old West Museum. A portion of proceeds from the sale will go to benefit the Museum and their mission of preserving the history, culture, and art of the West. Info is below in the event section. |

Slick and Forest Pixie are two of my limited edition sculptures that will be my miniature pieces for the show this year. Forest Pixie is nearly sold out, so if you've had your eye on this one, be sure grab one in Cheyenne!

Eucalypt 9" x 19" Eucalyptus is a treat for the senses. I love the rainbow colors of the plant, the otherworldly shape of the pods, the powdery blue leaves, and the taste of eucalyptus tea. And oh, that smell! This piece was a joy to work on. The Mini Eucalypt is where I made my test runs of the collage. |

Edge of Memory 9.5" x 10.5"
There was something that seemed so familiar about this crane as I was sketching. She felt right: ancient and timeless, dancing on the edge of my memory. |

Cut, Fold, and Handmade: The Art of Paper May 3rd - June 12th |
|
|
|
Even as we move to digitized images and social media, our love affair with paper art has by no means diminished over the years. Folded into origami and kirigami, laser-cut, layered and made into sculptures, paper artists can transform a humble sheet of paper into a spectacular piece of artwork. Accessible to all, paper endures as a medium to make notes, lists, memos, letters, ads, and artwork— once the most intimate means of communication, and the most readily discarded. I am one of fifteen artists included in this special invitational exhibition. |

Art for the Sangres showcases remarkable art for a vital cause – helping to protect land, water and wildlife while there is still time. The fine art show and reception is San Isabel Land Protect Trust’s largest fundraiser. The land trust has protected more than 40,000 acres of working ranches, agricultural and forest lands, water resources, wildlife habitat and scenic open spaces throughout southern Colorado. |
