Good opportunities

Hi guys. It's August, which means it's time for Sculpture in the Park and the Summer Art Market. This will also be my second year at Art on the Green, a new show hosted by Curtis Art Center.

Although I've been focusing on creating a lot of visibility for my larger and my one-of-a-kind pieces, I also have smaller limited edition sculptures available at a highly-collectable price point. These pieces are still hand cut original artworks, created in small editions of 20 or less from the same drawing, and all (except the trilobites that are presented as a white object in a curiosity collection) have a unique combination of papers. They've been very popular for me at shows, but I've also been slowly phasing them out as each edition closes. These three festivals may be your last opportunities to snag one of these originals at this price point. I'm reaching the end here... and I'm not sure what I'm going to replace them with. Hopefully, this should mean some new experimentation and expansion for me as an artist.

Hey, I also have a coupon to share for two free tickets to Sculpture in the Park. This is something I can only share through email, so if you happen to be reading this newsletter online, or QR codes don't work on your device, email me and I can send you a copy of the voucher.

Tiffany Miller Russell - Return of the Monarchs - Cut Paper Sculpture

Return of the Monarchs

12" x 6"
$1850
Available at Sculpture in the Park

Recently, I was honored to be a part of the creative team working on the coloring book Backyard Pollinators (more on that to come, since this newsletter is already packed!) One of my main duties was research. This mainly consisted of picking up pieces of my brain after my mind exploded time and time again from all the amazing things I was learning. Ever since, the world of plants and their relationship to their pollinators has been at the forefront of my perception when I walk outside. It's only natural that one of my next paper sculptures involve butterflies; I couldn't help it!

Snow Flowers (Jar of Magic)

$250
Available at Sculpture in the Park

Tiffany Miller Russell - Snow Flowers - Mixed Media

Sometimes I worry I'm falling into a rut - becoming victim of my own processes, not being true to being a boundless creative. Processes help us by offering shortcuts over learned paths so we can travel to new areas of question quicker, but they can also keep us chained to our own systems. I like art challenges. Cheyenne Frontier Days' Old West Museum presented me with one during the New Frontiers Art Show. Accepted artists were invited to submit pieces for an ornament wall. Holidays mean a time of breathtaking magic and wonder for me, and I wanted to capture that essence.

Snow Flowers is a mixed-media piece incorporating a small glass jar, specialty papers, and holographic glitter shapes. Although the photo includes the original rubber gasket, it has been replaced and the jar sealed with a paper pad toned with violet and given an iridescent treatment. Snow Flowers hangs from a delicate silver-toned chain.

Tiffany Miller Russell - Summer Roses - Cut Paper Sculpture

Summer Roses

8" x 8"
$1850
Available at Louisville Art Association's National Juried Fine Art Show

Summer Roses is the piece I created with inspiration from last year's Park Hill Garden Walk. My host gardeners had several rose bushes at their front walk. Their small roses opened in an intense orange and red that faded to a beautiful dusky tone as they aged. I loved the open petaled form, the dense small flowers, and the two colors of flowers in contrast on the same bush.

Tiffany Miller Russell - Sketches of Estes Park

While picking up my work from the FACE of Fiber in the Rockies show in Estes Park, I sketched the view from the Art Center of Estes. When I got home, I translated it into a tiny watercolor, courtesy July's Sketchbox subscription. On the facing page is a memory of two lady elk splashing in Lake Estes (with a full weekend crowd sharing the same waters).
