Gratitude in a New Place |
First off, thank you so much to everyone who participated in the estate auction of my early works, I know that a few of you who've had your eye on my artwork were able to snag a piece for yourself! I'm sitting and writing this newsletter in a place that fills me with awe just from being able to be here. We've moved to a new home in the mountains... There's just the right amount of civilization and access and plenty of nature. The weather has been surreal as we are high enough to actually be in the clouds, which is a very different experience than I ever expected. It's not like fog or mist - it's neither cold nor wet, and smells lightly of clean ozone. We've been discovering birds and wildflowers and watching the neighbors' horses from our balcony. I'm so excited to go exploring the hillside, but it will have to wait a little while... a minor injury has left me in crutches for a few weeks. Also, I'm momentarily studioless as I prep the room that I'll move into. The walls are pink... that's got to go! I haven't been able to work on any paper sculptures or painting, but I have resumed a drawing habit in my sketchbook after the whirlwind of moving. I'm turning some of this work into finished pieces that I'll be bringing to the shows this summer. It feels weirdly odd but also liberating to create work so quickly. The summer and early fall schedules are filling up with all the usual suspects. Sunday is the Park Hill Garden Walk, and this week opens a special show at the Art Students League of Denver that hits me deep with the right timing: the show is named Multi-Versatility and the call was for artists to hang their lesser-known media next to the work they are known for. Later this month I'm sending three paper sculptures off to Vermont for the Society of Animal Artist's debut exhibition at the new venue that will be their unofficial homefront. I'm trying to come up with a secular and non-cliche way to say "feel so blessed" but I'm not finding any other words. Thank you all for being on this journey with me. |

Bird, Fantasy Oil This is one of my first oil paintings since I began to get serious and spread my wings beyond the learning stage. It was created spontaneously from my head and a little bit of free time, and was a joy to create. |

We've come to know many of the Art Students League of Denver's members and instructors by their primary medium or signature works. Many of them are multi-disciplined artists fluent in many mediums that we don't typically get to see! ASLD is thrilled to present an exhibit encouraging artists to showcase multiple works of different mediums that celebrate their range, ability and "multiversatility". MULTI-VERSATILITY features visiting artist, Camisha Butler from Atlanta, GA who will be offering a a series of workshops. |

The Society of Animal Artists had a nationwide Draw at the Zoo day, and Jody Rigsby and I spent the day at the Butterfly Pavilion sketching, catching up on travels, and flipping through each other's sketchbooks. We kept it casual, but it was a much needed of art, inspiration, and friendship. |
